Device performance metrics are collected to provide an analysis of how hardware usage impacts internet quality. The device data collected enables Watchdog Dashboard users to identify and troubleshoot hardware-related internet quality issues for devices hosting the Watchdog for Desktop Agent.
Location data is collected to enable Admin-level Watchdog Dashboard users to view the location of the agent. The Admin-level user is authorized to see this data in the Watchdog Dashboard by the client that has contracted with us to provide the Watchdog service. The location data collected is also aggregated in regional analysis of Watchdog Agents’ internet quality. This aggregated data is used to show anonymized regional internet quality comparisons in the Watchdog for Desktop Agent UI. This data is viewable in the Watchdog Agent for Desktop UI by anyone who has access to the host PC. Access to the host PC is at the discretion of the client.
The core functionality of the Watchdog Agent for Desktop is to probe internet endpoint targets from the agent. Probing entails the agent sending small packets (pings) and larger speed test files at regular intervals to targets configured by the Admin-level Watchdog Dashboard. Probing data collected allows these users to analyze internet quality for Wifi/LAN, hops during transmission from the agent to the targets, and overall internet quality.
As with most websites and technology services delivered over the Internet, our servers automatically collect information when you access or use the Watchdog Agent for Desktop in log files. Logs of the probing data are viewable in the Watchdog Agent for Desktop.
All data is securely stored on the Google Cloud Platform in the United States. Data is retained at the discretion of the client that contracted with us to provide the Watchdog service.
