Overview

  • Activity logs enable users to filter and view changes to resources, metrics, and users logged by the system
  • Logs provide a record of important changes like when invited users join the project, agents were added to a probing distribution, etc. Logs do not replicate metrics data found elsewhere in the dashboard
  • Using logs requires setting a time range and filter logs by:
  • Category: Types of changes like creation, deletion, update, etc.
  • Service:
    • IAM is the system identity and authorization service for users, service accounts + keys, and groups. Filter this service for user invitation, account verification, update, and deletion activities
    • Monitoring handles metrics data collection between agents and targets. Filter by this service to view data collection logs
    • Watchdog service manages resources like agents, targets, groups, and probing distributions. Filter by this service to view resource creation/deletion, update, and configuration logs
  • User: This enables the sorting of logs by the users associated with a change

Activity Logs

Filtering logs

  • Set the date range for the logs to filter
  • Click the icon to filter logs by the category of activity and user or service
  • Combine multiple filters to create and statements

Filter Operator Filter Option Log Description
Category Contains Operation - Shows operations performed at a system level
- Example: SSH access is an operation important to the entire system, not just a single resource like an agent
Creation - Logs for resources creation
- Combine with a service filter to focus the logs returned
- Example: Combine "Category Contains Creation" with "Service Contains Watchdog" to view logs for the creation of probing targets, probes (agents), and probing distributions
Deletion - Logs for resource deletion
- Combine with a service filter to focus the logs returned
- Example: Combine "Category Contains Deletion" with "Service Contains Watchdog" to view logs for the deletion of probing targets, probes (agents), and probing distributions
Spec Update Filter returns logs of changes to the user and resource configuration. Examples:
- Combine with "Service Contains IAM" to return logs of when users accepted or rejected project invitations - Combine with "Service Contains Watchdog" to return logs of when agents were enabled or disabled, when agents were added to a group, when a primary location changed, etc.
State Update - Filter returns logs of changes to the state of resources. Examples:
- Combine with "Service Contains Watchdog" to return logs of changes in agent metrics like speed test download increased from 788.16 Mbs to 814.08 Mbs for an agent, count of targets in a target group increase or decreased, etc. - Applicable to the Watchdog service only
Meta Update Logs of changes to the resource's meta information like the time an agent was created and updated
Internal System field used for internal QA and will not returns logs internal changes to the system software that is non-pertinent to most users
Rejected Logs of requests rejected by the system, such as when a request to run a speed test or report hops fail
Client Error Logs errors from agents like failed activation or failure to update when a new probing configuration is pushed to the agent
ServerError Logs of server errors like the failure of a speed test to run or metrics returned
Read Unused in this release. It exists for future project updates that may include a paid service for use cases that require logging user access to sensitive data
Service Contains IAM - Logs or system identity and authorization management for users, service accounts + keys, and groups. IAM also manages permissions. Logs are created for role binding changes + invitation sent/accepted/denied)
- Use the IAM service filter to view logs like, "user X invited user Y with Admin privileges"
- Combine with category filters like "Category Contains Creation" to view user project invitation logs
Monitoring - Monitoring is a data storage service for storing generic, timestamp-based data (like latency or loss between agents and targets
- Use this service to view changes to metrics
Applications - Service Experience Insights in an EdgeLQ Platform application
- Additional EdgeLQ-enabled applications may be enabled for the project
- For the majority of projects, this filter will not return results because there are no additional applications enabled
Watchdog - Logs for all project metrics and configurations
- Combine with category filters like creation to view probing target, probes (agents), and probing distributions creation, modification, and deletion
Audit System logs used for internal QA and is not pertinent to most users
User Equals User Emails Select from the list of user emails in the project to view a user's system usage
