User roles and technical requirements for this article

Users Admin

Activities logs enable admin-level users to view all Watchdog activities by project

Activities logs are searchable by
Project View audit logs for each Watchdog project
Services Defults to the Watchdog service. Other service for EdgeLQ are selectable and provide insight to how the EdgeLQ platform powers edge applications like Watchdog
Date Range Filter activities logs by predefined date range or a specific range of dates
Users Filter changes made by any user assigned to the selected project
Category Filter for specific types of auditable actions in the activities log
Audit View changes made


Step 1: Navigate to Activities Log

Step 2: Select project

  • Audit logs are organized by projects and viewable by Admin-level users assigned to each project

Step 3: Filter by service

  • The services dropdown defaults to Watchdog
  • Watchdog runs on the EdegLQ edge hardware and application platform
  • Logs for EdgeLQ services are shown, but activiites relevant to Watchdog are found in this service

  • The default setting or the Watchdog Activites Log page
  • Use this filter to see activities logs relevant to Watchdog projects
IAM

  • EdgeLQ platform identity management
  • Logs for service account updates to the EdgeLQ platform
  • Example: A service account is created when a new device is onboarded to the EdgeLQ platform
Monitoring

  • EdgeLQ platform monitoring
  • Logs when a service account is writing data to the EdgeLQ platform database
Devices
(EdgeLQ)
  • EdgeLQ platform device monitoring
  • Logs the status of devices onboarded to the EdgeLQ platform
Applications

  • EdgeLQ application monitoring
  • Logs the status of applications like Watchdog that EdgeLQ orchestrates across onboarded devices
Audit
  • System field used for internal QA and will not return log data

Filter activities logs by predefined date range or a specific range of dates

Filter changes made by any user assigned to the selected project

Step 6: Filter activities logs by category

Filter categories to easily identify activities by the types of change recorded in the activities log

Category filters
Update
  • Shows significant create, delete, and edit updates for system-wide resources
  • Example: Creating a new probing target is a system-wide update and will found using this category filter
Operation
  • Shows operations performed at a system level
  • Example: SSH access is an operation important to the entire system, not just a single resource like an agent
SpecUpdateOnly
  • Changes to the configuration of an agent
  • Example: Agent is removed or added to an agent group
StateUpdateOnly
  • Changes to the state/status of an agent
  • Example: An agent's state changes from online to offline or and its time of last connection
InternalUpdate
  • Create, delete, and edit updates initiated by the system and NOT by a user or service account
OtherUpdate
  • Create, delete, and edit updates that do not change the behavior of the resource
  • Example: Adding or deleting an agent's memo field is logged but does not alter the agent's behavior
Rejected
  • Errors triggered when permission is denied to an unauthenticated user or service account
ClientError
  • Client requests that are made but not processed
ServerError
  • Server requests that are made but not processed
Read
  • System field used for internal QA and will not return log data
